Compare Geforce GTX 780 Ti and Radeon R9 290x video cards

Introduction
It’s no secret that games are one of the main entertainments in the modern world, and companies producing games earn a lot of money. Modern video games have very realistic images and to achieve such results, powerful gaming PCs are required, which cost a decent amount of money. And the main component in such computers are video cards. Their cost is approximately 40 – 50% of the cost of the entire computer.
Many gamers prefer to choose the components themselves and create their own configuration, which benefits in price and performance compared to ready-made assemblies. The main element of this configuration, of course, is the video card.

Recently I became interested in selecting components for my future PC, which I want to assemble myself. The computer was needed for gaming purposes. I started choosing components. Immediately the question arose about buying a video card. Since the main purpose of using this PC will be modern games, I first decided to choose a video card. At the moment, some of the most powerful are Radeon R9 R290X and GeForce GTX 780 Ti.

Thus, I will analyze the capabilities of two video cards, which are currently relevant and one of the most powerful.

To choose a video card you need to know certain rules:

1. A weak video card cannot be installed on a powerful processor and vice versa.

2. The dimensions of the video card must match the size of the case.

3. When choosing a video card, you need to take into account its power consumption, and take it into account when choosing a power supply.

4. Before installing two or more video cards, you need to make sure that the motherboard has the corresponding function (SLI/CrossFireX), the power of the power supply must also correspond to the power of the video cards.

Our video card will be selected with the following components:

Processor Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz – Modern new generation i7 processor. 4 cores and frequency 3.5. Megahertz with possible overclocking up to 3.9. Megahertz. (The average cost in Russia is 12,000 rubles)

My final assembly was slightly changed (instead of the original card, the same card from Asus and the cooler was replaced with a similar Arctic Cooling Freezer i30 CO cooler)

GeForce GTX 780 Ti

Characteristics presented from the website www.nvidia.ru/:

The official NVIDIA website demonstrates test results for common games on this video card with a screen resolution of 2560×1600 pixels. Tests presented for November 2013.

In addition to the official source, we will consider the opinions of users from the professional forum www.overclockers.ru/.
Bloggers note that the original GeForce GTX 780 Ti video card they tested has both its pros and cons.

The advantages include:

• high performance due to the greatly increased frequency of the graphics processor and its maximum level achieved in 3D mode;

• low noise level with automatic fan speed adjustment;

The disadvantages include:

• modest “overclocking” potential (primarily of the graphics processor) and packaging that is atypical for products of this level;

My point is this:

The advantages https://piratespinscasino.net include:

• 3 year warranty

• the device is relevant throughout this and next year

• excellent build quality

• excellent overclocking potential

• excellent drivers that are constantly updated

The disadvantages include:

• slightly noisy cooling system under load

Result: excellent gaming video card with excellent performance, guaranteed to support games with graphics settings at the “ultra” level for at least 2 – 3 years. The advantage is a 3-year warranty, good overclocking, which gives prospects for the future. However, the device is not cheap and makes quite a noticeable noise at maximum load.

Radeon R9 290X

The official AMD website presents the following characteristics of the video card in question:

• Core frequency: up to 1000 MHz.

• Number of universal processors: 2816

• Number of texture blocks: 176, blending blocks: 64

• Effective memory frequency: 5000 MHz (4×1250 MHz)

• Memory type: GDDR5

• Memory capacity: 4 gigabytes

• Memory bandwidth: 320 gigabytes per second.

• Compute performance (FP32) 5.6 teraflops

• Theoretical maximum fill rate: up to 64 gigapixels per second.

• Theoretical texture sampling speed: up to 176 gigatexels per second.
PCI Express 3 bus.0.

• Two Dual Link DVI connectors, one HDMI, one DisplayPort

• Power consumption up to 275 W

• One 8-pin and one 6-pin power connector.

Below are gaming performance tests on this video card

Let’s consider the opinion from the professional forum www.3dnews.ru/:
Bloggers who protested this video card noted both advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of this video card:

• TrueAudio technology. AMD says TrueAudio is a "fully programmable audio engine". Its appearance, according to AMD representatives, is similar to the advent of programmable shaders in graphics – this is a new level of sound environment. In other words, with the help of TrueAudio, the human brain can be deceived so much that it cannot distinguish computer sound from real one. This system, according to AMD, should greatly change the gaming industry.

• CrossFire without bridges. CrossFire is a technology that allows you to connect several video cards to one motherboard. The technology is similar to SLI technology from NVIDIA.

• VESA Display ID v1 support.3

• It is impossible not to note such a subtle tool for dynamic power control, which is PowerTune technology in its current form

• Excellent overclocking potential

Some gamers want to improve the performance of their video card by overclocking it. Overclocking a video card comes down to increasing the frequencies at which the core and memory operate. There are many ways to do this. Basically, modern motherboards and video cards have an application for safe overclocking with temperature sensors. All we have to do is increase the parameters in a special program to the number you need and press the start button. Now overclocking on modern video cards has been simplified to three keystrokes. It is important to know that when overclocking the performance gain is not large. And overclocking requires a fairly large amount of power from the power supply and, accordingly, consumes more electricity.

Disadvantages of this video card:

• The only complaint about the R9 290X is, of course, power consumption. It is impossible to hide the fact that the video card consumes more than 250 W and, most likely, has a real TDP in the region of 280 W. This is the inevitable price to pay for the combination of a huge core and high clock speed. However, the Hawaii GPU itself works without problems in such conditions and even has a margin for overclocking under air cooling of around 10% of the nominal. Temperatures around 95 °C, which the processor reaches under load, are considered acceptable. Increased heat generation also did not lead to an acoustic catastrophe (using the example of the reference sample, and open coolers on partner boards of the original design will be more efficient), and yet, the noise level can be assessed as “acceptable” and “normal”, but not better.

My opinion about this video card:

The advantages of this video card include:

• optimal video card power at a cheaper price than the GeForce GTX 780 Ti

• support for TrueAudio technology

The disadvantages include:

• consumption of large amounts of electricity

• more power-demanding power supply

• the noise level of the video card is higher than GeForce GTX 780 Ti

A good video card for a relatively good price, however, this price is almost equalized by higher power consumption and a more demanding power supply.

Let’s compare the characteristics and capabilities of GeForce GTX 780 Ti and Radeon R9290X video cards

To identify the best video card suitable for our configuration and for gaming purposes, accordingly, I suggest turning to tests of the performance of video cards and their capabilities in modern video games.

Conclusion
Based on a study of the characteristics of video cards, analysis of game tests, and study of user opinions from professional forums, we can draw the following conclusion:

• According to the professional forum
gpuboss.com/ users with difference 0.8 points give preference to the GeForce GTX 780 Ti video card

• According to the professional forum www.3dnews.ru/ users gave their preference to the GeForce GTX 780 Ti video card

• According to the professional forum www.overclockers.ru/ users chose the Radeon R9 290X as a cheaper option for the GeForce GTX 780 Ti video card

After analyzing the presented comparison tests, I came to the conclusion that the GeForce GTX 780 Ti video card is more suitable for our chosen configuration for gaming purposes. Its competitor, the Radeon R9 290X, is also well suited for gaming purposes, but does not meet some criteria to “hold the bar” with a video card from NVIDIA.

Damn, only an avid Baker is able to understand all the thrill (on the verge of orgasm) that he gets every time from building the computer of his dreams. All these boxes, pieces of hardware, wiring… Mrrrr, I’m burning you! 😉
I’m even a little jealous. I assembled my iron horse two years ago.
And I have one question for rummaging people: GTX 780 VS. GTX 780 Ti — are the benefits justified??
The introductory ones are: Intel Core i5-3570K, resolution 1920×1280 (60 Hz), without active 3D, without SLI and CrossFire.
The difference in price (at least in my region) is over 10 thousand. A natural question arises: Are the benefits worth it? Ti versions (I emphasize, in given conditions, and not abstract synthetic tests) of these “over 10 thousand”?

I didn’t understand the meaning either. It seems like the person just decided to describe his new computer, and the whole comparison of cards… well, in fact, it didn’t exist. Some “left” advantages and disadvantages are described, no tests under the same conditions, benchmarks, etc.

My sister has something like this GeForce GTX 460 715Mhz PCI-E 2.0 768Mb 3600Mhz 192 bit 2xDVI Mini-HDMI HDCP I don’t know how old. By today’s standards, you can’t look at the amount of video memory and the bus without fear. But all the games run just fine… So don’t get too excited, guys, don’t chase the top cards, because.To. They are for those who will run everything on hard resolutions and hard settings.

For home use 1920×1080 quite mediocre cards are enough. Take a GTX760 as a reserve – it will last for 5 years = D

The GTX780ti was brought to market only to compete with the R9 290X. As a result, we received a new top from nVidia, which in terms of performance is approximately equal to its competitor, but at the same time is ~6 thousand more expensive. Strictly speaking, today a top-end video card from nVidia is, in principle, economically unfeasible, but every product has its own buyer.

Why indicate the rest of the computer’s hardware if all “comparisons” of video cards are done stupidly by comparing information collected on the Internet?

All I did with the insides of my PeK was change the video card and power supply, but at least I didn’t catch the “buzz (on the verge of orgasm)”.
